How it Works
For the North Earthdial, a motor turns a map centered
on the north pole counter-clockwise one full rotation every 24 hours, the way
the earth turns when seen from space above the north pole. You
mark your own place on the map with a magnetic ring. Supported on
posts in front of the map are two stationary glass lenses. The inner blue
'solar lens' projects a vertical white path indicating your solar noon when
the magnetic ring passes behind it. The outer 'time zone lens' displays
local universal time hours as black lines.
